New research shows that requests online abortion service Women on Web are highest in USA states with restrictions to abortion access

New research by Abigail Aiken from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin published in the American Journal of Public Health showed that during a 10-month period, 6,022 people from the USA contacted Women on Web for help.

The research shows that requests came from all 50 states, but 76% requests came from states with restrictive abortion regulations. The highest rate of requests came from Mississippi (24.9 per 100,000 women of reproductive age), followed by Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas.

The research shows that states that implement legal barriers to clinic access, such as waiting periods, and the cost of in-clinic abortion made it harder for some people to access care in the clinic setting, and so they look online abortion services.

Privacy was the most important factor for looking for online services. Online telemedicine abortion services have demonstrated high levels of safety and effectiveness.
