Strategic Litigation
Women on Web has been undertaking strategic litigation since 2020 in collaboration with local and international organizations and legal teams.
“We litigate to influence the public discourse”
Strategic litigation or “impact litigation” is much more than just winning a court case. While favorable court rulings can produce revolutionary results, our primary goals extend beyond legal systems and justice. Strategic litigation is closely linked to our research and outreach efforts, using law to build social movements and advance broader changes in society.
As pioneers in transnational abortion telemedicine, we have seen firsthand how the fight for abortion access has moved into online spaces. At the same time more and more people are looking for abortion information and services on the Internet.
We use strategic litigation to restore access to our websites and online abortion pill service in countries where we are censored. We consider strategic litigation as an opportunity to mobilize people and raise awareness on how digital rights and unrestricted access to abortion information support sexual and reproductive freedom.
